Narrative in painting-what I want to say in my work
These classes are focused on developing a narrative in your work that utilizes creative design and draws the viewer to your painting. This is an area that challenges the best of painters! We will learn how to push a visual statement in your work through strong value structure, effective temperature and value transitions, color theory, solid shape design and intentional edges treatment. We will discuss how to emphasize a narrative based on visual concepts and draw from our own life experiences. Each student receives individual critique of their painting and instruction based on their skill level. Learning from some of the old masters, we will break down their intentional designs and how we can use those in our own work. We will learn how to develop our designs through technical tools available (Procreate and Photoshop).
Melinda will provide demos working from designs and studies she developed showing the process of developing a visual concept. Students may use their own references but references can be provided. This is for the student who wants to not only grow in their technical skills but develop a stronger body of work over the course of time.
If interested, a non-refundable $60 deposit will hold your spot. A commitment of at least 3 classes paid at the beginning of the month is required. Melinda is well-versed in oils, egg tempera, acrylics and gouache so all mediums are welcome in this class. Email her at [email protected] or call 303-881-1122 for registration.
